Short Story: Life After Death

September 26, 2018

I sat on the ledge of the roof, gazing at the horizons of the rural landscape. Calming yet heartwrenching to look at. I have no reason to live anymore. A frail old woman in her seventies appeared and put her hands together. Soon, the entire village came. They were before me in a circle.

Will they catch me if I fall?

“They must not want me to die here”, I thought.

I headed back down and the old woman came forward, pressing my head against hers and said, “You heard our prayers. You fought your demons. Your son knows. It is not your time yet. You get to live another day.”
